BJP Leader Ramesh Bidhuri Sparks Controversy with Remarks on Delhi CM Atishi, AAP leaders furious

Ramesh Bidhuri

BJP's Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri stirred fresh controversy on Sunday during a 'Parivartan Rally' in Rohini, where he made remarks targeting Delhi Chief Minister Atishi over her surname.

The rally, which was later addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw Bidhuri alleging that Atishi had changed her surname from "Marlena" to "Singh."

Bidhuri’s Statement

"This Marlena (surname used earlier by Atishi) became Singh, changed name. Kejriwal swore over his children not to go with the corrupt Congress, Marlena changed father. Earlier, she was Marlena, now she has become Singh. This is their character," Bidhuri was quoted as saying by PTI.

AAP’s Response

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) condemned Bidhuri's remarks, accusing BJP leaders of stooping to new lows. AAP supremo and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reacted strongly, stating, "Delhi people will not tolerate the insult of a woman chief minister. All the women in Delhi will take revenge for this insult."

Manish Sisodia, a senior AAP leader, criticized Bidhuri's comments as reflective of BJP’s character, alleging that such statements are made with the tacit approval of senior party leaders.

"From the very platform where the Prime Minister was appealing to the people of Delhi to support his government, Ramesh Bidhuri was making lewd comments about women. The Prime Minister must clarify whether he endorses Bidhuri's statements," Sisodia said.

Calls for Accountability

The remarks have sparked widespread outrage, with AAP leaders demanding a response from the BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Modi. Critics have pointed to a pattern of disrespectful remarks toward women leaders and questioned whether such behavior aligns with the BJP’s political ethos.

As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the BJP leadership will address the allegations and clarify its stance on Bidhuri's comments.
