BJP fields Navya Haridas to faceoff against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, from Wayanad

Navya Haridas, BJP candidate for the Wayanad parliamentary by-election, emphasizes local development needs in a press conference, showcasing her experience as a councilor and her commitment to serving the community

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

Navya Haridas, the General Secretary of the Kerala BJP Mahila Morcha, is a local councilor who previously contested the 2021 assembly elections but lost to Congress candidate Ahmed Devarakovil. She has now been nominated by the BJP to contest against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the Wayanad parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election.

This by-election follows Rahul Gandhi's victory in the Wayanad constituency in June, after which he opted to retain his seat in Raebareli, necessitating the by-election. Voting is scheduled for November 13, with results to be announced on November 23.

At 39, Navya Haridas has served as a councilor in the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation twice and is currently the leader of the BJP parliamentary party in the corporation. She also holds the position of State General Secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Navya completed her B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the recognized KMT College of Engineering under Calicut University.

Wayanad's Development Needs

Upon her nomination for the Wayanad seat, Navya stated, "The people of Wayanad need development. The Congress party is not adequately addressing the needs of the residents. After this election, Wayanad requires a better representative in Parliament who can address their issues." She emphasized the importance of having a leader who prioritizes local concerns, stating, "I have administrative experience, having been elected as a councilor twice in Kerala. For the past eight years, I have been in politics, serving the people, understanding their problems, and standing with them."

CPI Nominates Satyan Mokery

Rahul Gandhi, who was elected as a Member of Parliament for both Wayanad and Raebareli, ultimately decided to remain in Raebareli, which led to the need for a by-election in Wayanad. The Congress has nominated Priyanka Gandhi for the seat, while the BJP has put forth Navya Haridas, and the Communist Party of India (CPI) has selected veteran leader Satyan Mokery as their candidate.
