Bihar cadre IPS officer named new NSG DG, could serve till 2027
The Centre has appointed B Srinivasan, a senior IPS officer from the 1992 batch, as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG), according to a government order issued on August 27. Srinivasan, who hails from the Bihar cadre, will assume the role from his date of joining and serve until August 31, 2027, which is the date of his retirement.
Currently serving as the director of the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, Srinivasan takes over from Nalin Prabhat, whose tenure as NSG Director General has been cut short. Prabhat, also a 1992 batch IPS officer but from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, is being reassigned to the role of Special Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir. This move involves an inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to the Union Territories cadre (AGMUT) for an initial three-year term.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved these changes, with Prabhat set to assume his new position following the retirement of RR Swain on September 30.
