BIG TROUBLE, Election Commission Demands Proof from Kejriwal Over Claims of Toxic Water from Haryana

Kejriwal

The Election Commission has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding substantiation of his recent allegations that the Haryana government has contaminated the Yamuna water, potentially affecting Delhi's water supply.

Kejriwal's provocative statement, made at a January 27 election rally, accused the Haryana government of "mixing poison" in the water to engage in what he described as "dirty politics."

Kejriwal asserted that this alleged contamination was deliberate and posed severe risks, claiming that "the contaminated water is so toxic that it cannot be treated by the water treatment plants present in Delhi."

He further charged that the BJP-led Haryana government's actions amounted to an attempt at "mass murder" of Delhi's residents. In response to these serious accusations, the Election Commission has given Kejriwal a deadline until 8 pm on Wednesday to provide evidence supporting his claims.

The Commission has also highlighted the potential legal consequences of making unfounded allegations, which could include up to three years of imprisonment for statements that might disrupt national integration and public harmony. This controversy unfolds against the backdrop of upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi scheduled for February 5, amplifying the tensions and stakes involved.

The Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Saini, has hinted at plans to file a defamation case against Kejriwal, escalating the political drama. Meanwhile, the Congress party has urged the Election Commission to take stern action if Kejriwal's allegations are proven false, suggesting that an FIR should be registered against him for violating the model code of conduct.

Adding to the critique, Shilpa Shinde, CEO of Delhi Jal Board, has labeled Kejriwal's statements as "factually incorrect, without any basis and misleading," stressing that such claims could foster unnecessary fear among Delhi residents and strain inter-state relations.

As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on Kejriwal to back his serious allegations with proof, potentially affecting both the political landscape and the public trust in governmental management of essential resources like water.
