BIG BREAKING, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gets bail, in the excise scam case
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has received significant relief from the Supreme Court in the liquor scam case. After 156 days, the Supreme Court has granted bail to Kejriwal.
The decision was made by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuiyan. It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court had previously reserved its judgement on Kejriwal's bail petition in the Delhi liquor policy scam case. During the proceedings, both the CBI and Kejriwal presented their arguments.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 and, after 10 days of interrogation, was sent to Tihar Jail on April 1. He was granted temporary release for 21 days on May 10 for campaigning in the general elections, after spending 51 days in jail. The Supreme Court had approved Kejriwal's release until June 1. He surrendered at Tihar Jail on June 2. If released today, September 13, Kejriwal will have spent a total of 177 days in jail, with 156 days counting after accounting for the 21-day interim release.
The bail comes ahead of the Haryana state election where AAP has considerable presence.
