Bangladesh unrest, BSF foils major infiltration attempt
India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled a major infiltration attempt by Bangladeshi infiltrators at Manikganj border where over 600 Bangladeshi nationals attempted to enter Indian territory. BSF North Bengal Frontier successfully sent them back to Bangladesh.
On Wednesday (August 7, 2024), the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully prevented approximately 120 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, from entering India at two border locations in North Bengal. A BSF official reported that the group was persuaded to return to Bangladesh with the assistance of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and other government officials.
In a significant development amidst ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the BSF thwarted a major infiltration attempt by over 600 Bangladeshi nationals at the Manikganj border on the same day. This incident occurred just a day before Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus is scheduled to take the oath as the head of Bangladesh's interim government.
The North Bengal Frontier unit of the BSF intercepted and sent back the infiltrators, ensuring the integrity of India's borders. This attempt comes at a crucial moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape, marked by significant unrest and a change in leadership. Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus is expected to assume the role of head of the interim government on Thursday. Amid the political turmoil, Yunus has called for calm and peace, urging citizens to avoid violence and seize the opportunity for "our new victory."
