Rape

A disturbing incident of attempted rape has come to light at Jharkhand Central University (CUJ) in Ranchi, where a B.Ed student was allegedly attacked by four male students on campus.

The student claimed that the assault occurred around 1:30 pm on Wednesday, when the accused surrounded her outside the campus and tried to rape her.

The attackers allegedly snatched her mobile phone during the incident, but the student managed to escape and reach her hostel after screaming for help. The victim immediately reported the incident to the university administration via email. In response, the CUJ administration swiftly formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter.

The committee, consisting of Dr. Rajnikant Pandey, Dr. Sachin Kumar, Dr. Nirmali Bardoi, and Ram Kishore Singh, has been tasked with submitting a report within two days. In addition to the internal inquiry, an FIR was filed at the Kanke police station based on the student's complaint. Following the complaint, the accused student was suspended by the university, though some students have demanded his expulsion.

The protests in support of the victim intensified, with many students accusing the university administration of attempting to cover up the incident.

**Protests and Allegations Against Administration**

A large number of students took to the campus on Thursday to stage a protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and stronger measures to ensure campus safety. Protesters raised slogans against the administration, alleging that the university was trying to shield the accused and suppress the matter. The students also expressed their concern about the safety of female students on campus, demanding better security measures.

**Victim’s Complaint and Demands for Action**

In her online complaint, the victim stated that she felt unsafe on the CUJ campus, both inside and outside the premises. She has called for the entire campus to be under CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety of all students. The victim also claimed she could identify all four attackers, urging the authorities to take swift action. The incident has prompted widespread condemnation, and students are continuing to demand justice.

While the police have now intervened, the university’s delayed response to the complaint and the lack of immediate action against the accused have fueled tensions on campus. As the investigation continues, the students and faculty await further developments.
