Assam CM promises NRC in Jharkhand, assures infiltrators will be pushed back into Bangladesh
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made significant remarks regarding the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Jharkhand, emphasizing that those not listed will be deported to Bangladesh. He stated, "The NRC will be done, and individuals whose names are absent from the list will need to be pushed back to Bangladesh. This will be our policy".
During a press conference in Hazaribagh, Sarma explained that everyone would have the chance to present their case when the NRC process is conducted. He affirmed that all legal protocols would be adhered to, stating, "If you cannot prove your Indian citizenship, we will push you to Bangladesh through the legal route".
Sarma also highlighted that in Assam, the initial phase of the NRC has identified approximately 1.4 million people who may not be Indian citizens. He mentioned that they have requested permission from the Supreme Court for a second revision of the list, which could potentially increase this number further.
In addition to these comments, Sarma announced a stricter verification process for obtaining Aadhaar cards in Assam, stating that applicants must first apply for the NRC. This move aligns with an office memorandum aimed at intensifying efforts to detect illegal immigrants across Assam's borders.
