Amit Shah to Unveil BJP’s Manifesto, Address Rallies in Poll-Bound Jharkhand
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Shah, who arrived in Ranchi on Saturday night, will release the party’s “Sankalp Patra” and address rallies in Dhalbhumgarh, Barkatha, and Simaria as part of BJP's campaign.
BJP’s Jharkhand election in-charge, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, confirmed Shah’s visit, emphasizing the party’s goal of establishing a “double-engine” government in Jharkhand. Chouhan criticized the current JMM-Congress coalition government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, claiming that development had stalled under its rule.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo shared that the manifesto will address various groups across the state, including farmers, women, youth, infrastructure, and development issues, aiming to reach all sections of society. In contrast, the opposition alliance, known as INDIA, has yet to finalize its seat-sharing arrangement, with BJP candidates already filing nominations.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the manifesto will feature 150 commitments, aligning with the 150th anniversary of revered tribal leader Birsa Munda. Sarma highlighted the symbolic significance of the manifesto’s release by Shah, adding that the BJP is committed to honoring Jharkhand's cultural heritage and addressing key state issues.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has called on the central government to clear coal dues of ₹1.36 lakh crore to the state. Ahead of Shah’s visit, Soren posted a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to ensure the overdue funds are returned for the state’s development. He also appealed to BJP MPs from Jharkhand to support his call for the funds.
The Jharkhand Assembly elections will take place in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with results to be announced on November 23. In the previous elections, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 30 seats, BJP secured 25, and Congress won 16 out of the 81 Assembly seats.
