Amid political storm in India over hacking message alert, Apple issues this statement

Amid political storm in India over many opposition leaders in India receiving Apple hacking alert message on their devices, the company finally has issued an explanation.

“Apple does not attribute the threat notifications to any specific state-sponsored attacker. State-sponsored attackers are very well-funded and sophisticated, and their attacks evolve over time. Detecting such attacks relies on threat intelligence signals that are often imperfect and incomplete. It’s possible that some Apple threat notifications may be false alarms, or that some attacks are not detected. We are unable to provide information about what causes us to issue threat notifications, as that may help state-sponsored attackers adapt their behavior to evade detection in the future” : state the company on ‘state-sponsored’ attack on phone alleged by some Opposition members in India.

It need be mentioned that multiple opposition leaders including TMC’s Mahua Moitra, AAP’s Raghav Chaddha, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Priyanka Chaturvedi and Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Pawan Khera claimed they have received warnings from their phone manufacturer about “state-sponsored attackers trying to compromise their phone”. Such messages have also been received by many others.
