Ahead of election, Maha Congress expels two leaders, know more

Maharashtra Congress expels MLAs Zeeshan Siddique and Jitesh Antapurkar for anti-party activities ahead of the assembly elections, with implications involving the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and BJP.

Congress

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole announced that the party has expelled its MLAs, Zeeshan Siddique and Jitesh Antapurkar, just ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. While Patole did not provide specific reasons for their expulsion during his remarks in Nagpur, the decision follows revelations that seven Congress MLAs cross-voted in the recent biennial elections for 11 Legislative Council seats.

When questioned about Zeeshan Siddique and Antapurkar, Patole dismissed further discussion, stating that there was no point in commenting on the two MLAs as they had already been expelled from the party.

Zeeshan Siddique, who was elected from Bandra (East) in Mumbai, is the son of former minister Baba Siddique, who recently joined the Ajit Pawar-led NCP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Antapurkar represented Deglur in Nanded district.

Earlier, on Thursday, Antapurkar submitted his resignation to the state assembly speaker, and later that evening, he joined the BJP in the presence of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, MP Ashok Chavan, and state BJP chief Chandrashekar Bawankule. Chavan mentioned that Antapurkar faced insulting treatment within Congress. Zeeshan Siddique is also expected to follow his father's footsteps and join the Ajit Pawar-led NCP soon.

Sources suggest that both MLAs were likely among those who cross-voted in the recent Legislative Council elections. However, their expulsion was primarily due to anti-party activities, as they were seen participating in events organized by the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
