The Karnataka film industry has requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to create a panel to address sexual harassment issues, following the Hema Committee's report on Malayalam cinema

Hema Committee

The Karnataka film industry has called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to establish a panel to address sexual harassment issues in KFI. This request follows the recent Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread sexual abuse in the Malayalam film industry and implicated several prominent actors.

In a letter to CM Siddaramaiah, 153 members of the Kannada film industry, including notable figures like Kichcha Sudeep and Ramya, urged him to form a committee led by a retired judge to investigate and address sexual harassment. The letter, supported by the Film Industry For Rights & Equality (FIRE), emphasizes the need for comprehensive measures to tackle workplace sexual abuse and create a safe and equitable environment for women in the industry.

FIRE has called for a thorough investigation into systemic issues faced by women in KFI, with recommendations for new policies to ensure a healthier work environment. They also requested that any findings be made public for transparency and urged that the investigation be completed within three months.

Following the meeting with CM Siddaramaiah, actor Chetan Ahimsa expressed disappointment over the brief discussion and urged the CM to take proactive measures. He emphasized that women’s safety is a broader issue affecting all areas of life, not just the film industry. Actor Sanjana Galrani also met with the Chief Minister, urging urgent government intervention to protect women working in Sandalwood.
