Abusive husband pronounces now outlawed 'triple talaq' for divorce, aggrieved wife seeks police help
Shabana Khan, a resident of Gokul Nagar in Mutth Purena, has had her two-decade-long marriage with her husband, Mohammad Khan, abruptly ended with the utterance of “triple talaq.” After exhausting her options by repeatedly visiting local police stations in search of justice, she has now appealed to the Superintendent of Police for help.
Accompanied by her lawyer, Sajid Khan, Shabana shared with the media that her husband divorced her by saying “talaq” three times. She recounted that she married Mohammad Khan, son of Ahmed Khan, in accordance with Muslim customs about 24 years ago in Naya Para, near Phool Chowk. However, this long-standing marriage was abruptly dissolved by her husband’s pronouncement of triple talaq.
Shabana expressed that she had never failed in her duties as a wife. In 2021, her husband suffered severe injuries from an accident, resulting in broken bones in his back, legs, and calves, leaving him bedridden for about five months. During this time, she diligently attended to all his needs, including meals, hygiene, medication, and hospital visits.
Shabana revealed that her husband had sold the 22 tolas of gold and 40 tolas of silver she received as wedding gifts, claiming he needed the money. He then demanded more money from her family. When she refused, he physically assaulted her, verbally abused her, and ultimately threw her out of their home on November 28, 2021, even selling their house.
After some time, Shabana learned that her husband was involved with another woman and was living with her near Mandi Gate in Pandri, Raipur. When she, along with her brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, went to confront him, her husband became enraged. He verbally abused her again, declaring “talaq” three times and insisting that she leave his house, stating that she was no longer his wife and that returning would result in dire consequences for her.
