AAP leader Atishi to be sworn in as Chief Minister today, five colleagues to take oath as Ministers
AAP leader Atishi is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday afternoon at Raj Niwas, along with her council of ministers, officials have confirmed. President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and approved Atishi's appointment, which will take effect from the time of her swearing-in.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 pm and is expected to be a modest event, given Kejriwal’s resignation and the short time available for preparations due to delays in receiving the necessary approvals.
Earlier this week, AAP MLAs unanimously selected Atishi as the leader of the ruling legislature party. Along with Atishi, five other ministers will also take the oath, including veterans Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and newcomer Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra.
Reports suggest that the retained ministers will likely continue with their previous portfolios, while Ahlawat may take over the departments that were left vacant after the resignation of Raaj Kumar Anand earlier this year. Atishi will become Delhi’s third female Chief Minister.
Arvind Kejriwal tendered his resignation on September 17, paving the way for Atishi to take over. AAP national convener Sanjay Singh had earlier stated that Kejriwal will give up all the facilities associated with the role of Chief Minister, including security, and will live as a common citizen.
