Aurangabad, Osmanabad names changed, Maharashtra govt issues formal notification

In a sudden move, the Maharashtra government issued a notification to change the names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad Revenue Divisions to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv Revenue Divisions respectively.

This was confirmed by the Chief Minister’s Office. The decision was first taken during the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi government in year 2022.

Subsequently, it was reconfirmed by the Eknath Shinde led government in year 2022. But it took a special cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde that confirmed the issuance of notification on the change of names.

The Aurangabad and Osmanabad districts have now formally been changed to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv repectively.
