As the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on achieving consensus on the issue of ‘One Nation, One Election’ and has even formed a committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, there were speculations that the government may make a move on this issue in the upcoming special session of Parliament.
Now the former President Ram Nath Kovind, also the chairman of the ‘One Nation One Election’ committee, he announced that the first meeting will take place on 23rd September.
Earlier the government had notified the committee which has eight members including Home Minister Amit Shah, former leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azaad and former finance commission chairman NK Singh.
The committee is to look into how to hold simultaneous polls for Parliament, state assemblies, municipalities and panchayats.
