In a major breather to the Maharashtra government, the activist on hunger strike since Aug 29 ended his fast in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The activist Manoj Jarange accepted the glass of juice from CM Shinde to break his fast and reposed confidence that the issues raised by him would best be settled by the current ruling dispensation.
Jarange was on hunger strike since Aug 29 in a Central Maharashtra village demanding that the state government issue Kunbi caste certificates to the Maratha community.

Among the prominent demands of the Maratha activist included, police cases against Maratha quota activists need to be withdrawn, police officials responsible for the lathicharge on such activists be suspended and that CM Shinde needs to be present at the time of breaking of hunger strike.
