Nipah virus alert in Kerala after two suspected cases die in Kozhikode. State health minister Veena George has convened an emergency meeting on the issue after the alert was sounded.

Two people, well into their forties, passed away in private hospital and are suspected to have Nipah virus. Their samples have been sent in for the testing.
Nipah is zoonotic virus that spreads from animals to humans and fruit bats, are known to host these viruses. The Nipah infection can cause problems ranging from respiratory issues to fatal encephalitis. As per WHO, there are no drugs or vaccines available for Nipah virus infection.
