Amid world leaders arriving for G 20 in India, the US Embassy in Delhi has fielded a Hindi speaking diplomat to explain the deepening India US ties.
Prior to the arrival of US President Joe Biden to New Delhi, Margaret MacLeod, the US State Department’s Spokesperson says “We will have discussions on several issues. India and the US share a partnership in several sectors including critical emerging technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Education, Student mobility and others. America wants to work with India after seeing the ambition of the youth in India”.
She also reacted to the Russian and Chinese Presidents skipping the visit to this G 20. She said, “Who will participate in the Summit is the decision of that individual country. We will try to work with the representatives of China and Russia during the G 20 Summit. As our NSA said, consensus would be difficult (on Delhi declaration), but it is not impossible, we will try our best to get the agreement done…”.
There are questions being raised about whether India can bring about some kind of consensus in view of sharp differences on Ukraine issue between US led West and Russia-China combine.
India, on its part, is pushing for membership of African Union in the G 20 meeting and thus positioning itself as voice of Global South.
