Amid the speculations that India could formally change its name to ‘Bharat’ and that a resolution to this effect might be tabled in the special session of the Indian Parliament, a query to the United Nations spokesperson has been made by a reporter that has now gone viral.
The United Nations spokesperson was asked by a reporter that rumours are about India wanting to change its name to Bharat and so what would be the process for the UN to bring it into effect.
He also mentioned that Turkey had earlier changed its name to Turkiye and that had been accommodated as well.
The UN spokesperson simply replied that ”if we get requests like that, we consider them as they come’.
Though it needs to be clarified that the Indian government remains tightlipped over the issue and has neither confirmed if it plans such a move nor has it denied the rumours ongoing.
