A government officer went about on excursion to a reservoir in Pakhanjur of Kanker district in Chhattisgarh.
He was taking selfie when his over a lakh rupees worth mobile phone slipped and fell into the water.
While the locals were summoned and they tried to search for the phone, the officer was bent upon getting his mobile device back as it was water proof.
The officer then ordered deployment of two diesel pumps of 30 HP power and those kept working for three days at a stretch draining close to 21 lakh liters of precious water during the peak of summer in the country.
The phone eventually got retrieved but it is no longer functional but the visuals of this unprecedented outrageous act has left netizens fuming.
While the officer in question says that he did obtain permission from local officer of the Water Resources Department, the WRD sources say that more water was drained than had been permitted.
Meanwhile multiple leaders from opposition BJP including former CM Dr Raman Singh and former administrative officer OP Chaudhary have demanded strictest possible action against this officer.
