In a major decision, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced carrying out nationwide surveillance on milk and milk products in its ongoing effort to curb adulteration of milk and milk products.
This pan-India surveillance will be done on a large scale by collecting samples from both the organised and unorganised sectors in all the districts of the States/ UTs.
Under the campaign, samples of products such as khoa, chenna, paneer, ghee, butter, curd, and ice cream will also be checked as part of the ongoing effort to curb adulteration of milk and milk products.
The survey will assess the samples for compliance with quality and safety parameters. It will also identify hotspots for adulteration in milk and milk products, and devise corrective actions.
The agency has carried out such surveillance of milk and milk products since year 2011.
